The absolute musical highlight came in form of French Gojira, a band that shook the very foundations of Copenhell with a ferocious blend of progressive metal at its highest calibre.Photo: Lykke Nielsen/Rockfreaks
Unlike at Roskilde Festival, crowdsurfing is not forbidden and the crowds moshed away with happiness. People who fell were immediately picked up by their peers.Photo: Philip B. Hansen/PhilpBH.com

Copenhell is not only attended by the long-haired and the bearded. Plenty of children joined in on the festivities, including this little one. Photo: Philip B. Hansen/PhilpBH.com
Swedish melo-death pioneers At The Gates performed a somewhat predictable but still rib-rattling performance.Photo: Lykke Nielsen/Rockfreaks
The biggest surprise came in form of Ice-T’s hip-hop/metal crossover project Body Count. Angry rebellious music inspired by the streets of South Central Los Angeles. Photo: Lykke Nielsen/Rockfreaks

Closing out the festival’s main stage was Ghost, a Swedish opera-rock band whose members remain anonymous to this day. The music itself may not be hugely original but their theatrics and stage aesthetics were dazzling.Photo: Lykke Nielsen/Rockfreaks

Since Black Stone Cherry had rambled their tour bus into a gas-station (luckily nobody got hurt), Danish veterans Pretty Maids filled in for the absence.Photo: Lykke Nielsen/Rockfreaks
With a stage containing enormous mushrooms, the psychedelic and funky outfit Primus were also one of the main highlights of the festival. Photo: Lykke Nielsen/Rockfreaks
At Smadreland (that's Danish for 'destruction-land'), concert-goers could grab a hammer, axe or baseball bat and release their inner vandal.Photo: Philip B. Hansen/PhilpBH.com
Metal-themed wrestling may have been the dumbest form of entertainment at the festival.

The flamboyant quartet The Darkness played to a somewhat disinterested crowd, but that did not stop the UK outfit from providing a hugely energetic show. Photo: Lykke Nielsen/Rockfreaks

Copenhell's 2015 mascot was inspired by the Fenris wolf of Nordic mythology. The artistic mural will stay permanently at the site.Photo: Philip B. Hansen/PhilpBH.com
