Record number of Norwegians book ferry trips to Denmark
Norwegians are rushing to take ferry trips to Denmark, with operators reporting a record number of bookings.
On June 15th, Denmark will open its borders to tourists from Germany and the Nordic countries, so long as they have a booking at a hotel, campsite or holiday cabin, and will stay for at least six days.
"The moment Prime Minister Erna Solberg announced that people could again travel to Denmark, it was as if the dam had burst," Fjord Line CEO Rickard Ternblom told NRK. "It is obvious that people have a pent-up need to travel."
Helge Otto Mathisen, Executive Vice President of Communication and Public Relations at Color Line, said the company had seen surge in interest.
"After the news came, we have experienced a record number of bookings. There are far more people who want to go to Denmark now, than at the same time last year," he told NRK.
To help travellers meet the six-day rule, Color line is offering six-day return trips, instead of the normal two or three day round trips.
Fjord Line is offering trips to Denmark from Bergen, Stavanger and Kristiansand on June 16th. Color Line is offering trips from Larvik and Kristiansand, also starting on June 16th.
