Denmark sees record number of first-time house buyers

A record number of people bought their first property in Denmark last year, with the tally exceeding that seen in the run-up to the 2007 financial crash for the first time.
There were 62,500 first-time buyers in Denmark in 2018, compared to 59,572 in 2007, according to the figures, which were released by Statistics Denmark on Tuesday.
“The high level of commercial activity in the housing market in 2018 is being driven by several years of economic growth, with low interest rates and high employment," Jakob Holmgaard, from Statistics Denmark, said in a press release.
"The upswing in the Danish economy has also affected the number of first-time buyers, which is a record high in 2018."

But while the number of buyers is slightly more than at the peak of the 2007 housing boom, they are slightly older.
According to Statistics Denmark, today's first time buyer has an average age of 35.3 years old, compared to 33.9 in 2007.
