A Danish comedian has posted a photo of himself naked in the bath with his two-year-old daughter on Facebook, along with the message, "a father in the bath with his daughter is not paedophilia, it's 'hygge'".
Torben Chris, whose one man show 'jydelogik‘ or Jutlander Logic' is a critique of the supposed Danish fear of nakedness, has had nearly 60,000 'likes' for the post and a flurry of grateful comments from people who have been accused of behaving inappropriately with their children.
Danish commentators seem almost unanimous in thinking that sharing a bath with you children is "hygge", a Danish concept which sits somewhere between 'cosy' and 'fun'.
The negative comments overwhelmingly came from foreign-born Danes.
"Put on some underwear my friend," writes Bariş Balo Bicen. "What good will your daughter get from seeing your genitals?"
"The only person who isn't thinking straight is you and your types!!!" wrote Mikail Gümüs. "You're sitting there with your legs spread out in front of a two-year-old girl. Doesn't it feel wrong?? Was there not a single time where it felt wrong for the child?? Who on earth says your daughter wants to see you like this?? Poor child!!!"
Since he began his comedy campaign against the fear of nakedness, or 'nøgenhedsforskrækkelse', as he calls it, Chris has been contacted by a man who said a stranger had accused him of being a paedophile simply because he had a bath with his two-year-old.
He had been contacted by a man who claimed to have been accused of “encouraging paedophilia” because he shared a picture of a French braid on his 11-year-old daughter's bare back.
He was even contacted by a father whose wife thought it was inappropriate if their daughter saw him pee.
“Listen here,” he writes. “Children and adults enjoy being naked together. There is nothing wrong with a father who washes his daughter's bottom and vagina when she's a child. On the contrary, it is bloody disgusting if nobody does it, and unfair if only the mother does it.“
