A police officer has been arrested and charged on suspicion of stealing money from a dead man, the Independent Police Complaints Authority (Den Uafhængige Politiklagemyndighed - DUP) said on Monday.

According to a DUP press release, an officer on the island of Zealand responded to a report of a dead body on Thursday. The following day, DUP received a tip-off that the officer had stolen money from the dead man’s wallet.

A task force from the National Police (Rigspolitiet) then arrested the officer and in a search discovered a cash amount equal to that which was stolen from the deceased man.

The officer in question was charged and released. DUP will continue its investigation before handing the case over to the public prosecutor’s office.
